Kiwanis Malaysia Academy’s Workshop for Special Education Teachers

Kiwanis Malaysia Academy (KMA) conducted a 2-day workshop for Special Education Teachers on 27 and 28 May 2023 at the Asia Pacific University (APU). The 2 full day training consisted of sessions on overall management of Special Education Needs (SEN) classrooms followed by more specific breakout sessions for Autism, Dyslexia and Down Syndrome.

Assoc Prof Dr Hasnah Toran

The morning session on both days was conducted by the renowned Assoc Prof Dr Hasnah Toran from the Faculty of Education, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The Assoc Professor covered the basics of SEN education in classrooms on the first day, and on the second day, provided a detailed explanation of how to come up with an Indivisualised Education Plan or IEP.

The Autism breakout was co-present by:
Ms Desiree Kaur (Founder of Project Haans)                                    
Ms Nur Ayunni Filzati (Occupational Therapist and COO of  ED’ Therapy)


The Dyslexia breakout session was presented by:                            
Ts Sherry Hisham (Senior Lecturer, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Malaysia and Specialist in MyLexics)


The Downs Syndrome breakout session was presented by:
Ms Pauline Wong (Senior Director of the Community Development Department at Malaysian CARE)

On the second day, the event was graced by Pn Sri Hjh Khir Johari, the Patron for Kiwanis Malaysia and the Kiwanis Khir Johari Foundation. Pn Sri Presented certificates of attendance to all attendees, certificates of appreciation to presenters and tokes of appreciations to all who contributed to the success of the training, alongside the Chairman of Kiwanis Malaysia Academy, Dato Fatimah Saad. Also present was Rosemary Tan, Governor of Kiwanis Malaysia.
