Tree Top International School Sets the Bar of True Inclusion of All Abilities

In celebration of International Day of Persons With Disabilities on 3 December, Tree Top International School organised the All Ability Sports Carnival 2023. The main idea behind this initiative was to bring people of all abilities together for a sporting activity. Amongst the fun and games organised included Penalty Shootout, Disc Golf, Table Tennis, Cornhole, Bottlebash and Pickleball. The premise was to have people with disabilities play these games together with able bodies and neurotypicals. Regardless the abilities, everyone played these games alongside one another.

Amongst the fun and games organised included Penalty Shootout, Disc Golf, Table Tennis, Cornhole, Bottlebash and Pickleball. The premise was to have people with disabilities play these games together with able bodied and neurotypical individuals. Regardless the abilities, everyone played these games alongside one another.

Adding to the merriment of the atmosphere, there were Christmas Booths, Food stalls, Face Painting, Music, Handicrafts and much more. It was truly a carnival atmosphere were people with disabilities were able to move around freely with the necessary accommodations already made for their convenience. The most striking part of this event was how people with disabilities were treated with much dignity and assistance was offered to all who needed it, regardless of their abilities.

A representative from the Social Welfare Department under the Ministry of Women and Family Development also graced the event. Students from Tree Top International School also gave short speeches and presented tokens of appreciation to participants. The schools founder, Law Cheok Maan also had his newly published book, 7 Holistic Intelligences – Education Reimagined for Industry 4.0, for sale at a discounted price.

Inclusion is not always about offering help to someone who has a disability. It is also about allowing people to get around in a dignified manner. To quote this year’s Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day Theme – with us not for us. This event by Tree Top International School emulated this phrase in every way.
