Vishaka, born in November 1998, was diagnosed with autism at 20 months. He was quickly placed in several early intervention programmes. Although the programmes did not yield the expected results, they did help. Due to his condition, he has had to endure many challenges, some of which, mundane, while others are more extraordinary \u2013 even weird, but always wonderful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the hardships and the supposed apathy that accompanies the typical person with autism, Vishaka retains a degree of empathy and emotion. Emotions are tough, even for the most self-actualised neuro-typical, having his condition certainly does not ease his situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initially introduced to art in 2010 through Teacher Joice, Vishaka quickly took to it. What began as simple doodles without form soon turned into something more abstract which then morphed into a body of work with substance and a semblance of innocence (an innocence) that is ever present in Vishaka. Of course, the tutelage and assistance of teacher Joice cannot be understated in his artistic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now art serves as a means for him to express and emote, a means to do what he otherwise could not. He has come a long way from the child he once was, but the path taken was not a smooth one, nor was his development through the years, linear. The path ahead is also long, and unpredictable. We hope that his development continues and that he will one day, realise his potential and lead a life with a semblance of normalcy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vishaka\u2019s paintings consist of animals, birds and flowers- all brought to life by the boundless energy of his creativity.  He has discovered a profound connection to the outdoors that transcends conventional understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For him, nature is not merely a backdrop; it is a muse that sparks a cascade of bold and dramatic interpretations on his canvas. His paintings are not mere representations but vibrant expressions of how he perceives the world around him. The canvas becomes a realm where his unique perspective on nature unfolds, revealing the vitality that resonates within his mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among his masterpieces are tender portrayals of moments shared with his mother, the nurturing force in his life. In these paintings, nature intertwines with the bond between mother and child, creating visual symphonies of love, understanding, and connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The canvases also bear witness to the profound relationship he shares with his favourite childhood companion\u2014Thomas the Engine. The toy locomotive becomes a symbol of joy, exploration, and the limitless possibilities that unfold in the world of his creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The primary purpose of organizing this exhibition is to illuminate and inspire the artistic soul of Vishaka, whose voice deserves to resonate within our community. Through this showcase, we aim to share the essence of Vishaka’s creativity and offer a unique opportunity for the community to connect with his work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
